I've been a pastor|educator|counselor for 17 years working primarily with jr. and sr. high students and families. I'm married to my wonderful wife Jennifer and I have a beautiful little daughter named Gladys and an amazing little boy named Jack. I have a private counseling practice in Seattle near Greenlake and I'm also a professional wedding officiant. I am a huge music fan and love all kinds. I love to learn and I love to laugh.
wow! lots of emotions running through on that one. at first, i cringe as images of people being beat over the head with Bibles comes into my mind. where is relationship & grace? and then i settle into the truth that most of us will be pretty strongly humbled at some point in our lives. i guess i am more comfortable with "humbling" rather than "being cut down."
what do i love about it? i love all of the faces and images (particularly kris kristofferson & johnny depp for aesthetic reasons) and i love the graffiti that says "sinners make the best saints." amen!
i appreciate your thoughts and your sharing. i love the faces, not because they are of famous people, but because they are so expressive and telling. Without saying anything the faces tell stories of both pain and joy - and i think it challenges us to think about what God's love looks like - "sinners make the best saints."
and then there is the "being cut down" idea, or is it pruning, or as you said being humbled. and then if i can share another thought, often times things are cut down, for other uses, trees cut down for paper, wood to provide light and heat, or shelter. Which is both humbling and yet purposeful and redeeming. thanks for sharing my friend.

I wonder if they realize they're singing about God's judgement.
